Teaching Children Safety for Life

For Central Alberta schools and communities. Where children learn to be safe, while having fun!

About

Safety City

Safety City is an organization dedicated to ensuring safety for everyone in and around our community. We have programs that we deliver both to the schools and for the public. Safety is the key message in all of our programs. What would your children do in a fire? How would they behave if they came face to face with a momma cow? Do they know the proper steps for crossing the street safely? Do you? Come see us at Red Deer Safety City to help keep you and your children safe.

25 Years of Safety (City)

Press Release for Immediate Distribution           April 24, 2026

Dear Community,

On April 24th, 2001, Red Deer Safety City Society, formerly Kiwanis Safety City opened its doors to the public after almost a decade of fundraising and community building by Kiwanis Club of Red Deer. Bringing to fruition a mission and focus to teach children and families in Central Alberta how to be safe in varying situations.

Since joining the community of Red Deer we have seen 70,000 children through our programs.
Award winning Injury Prevention Programs centered around Traffic Safety, Farm Safety, Fire Safety have been our flagships of educational support to the community we have served and loved since beginning our public operations 25 years ago, and we are still going strong today

As injury rates among children, youth, and adults continue to rise, our communities grow and diversify, and we become both more dependent on motor vehicles while finding ourselves with a desire for safe alternatives, safety is becoming more and more important in our everyday lives and for the lives of future generations. We continue to grow and contribute to the well being of our community, young and old. Through community events, field trips, summer camps, bike rodeos, birthday parties, and more we deliver hundreds of educational experiences to individuals and groups throughout Central Alberta and beyond.

Through partnerships and initiatives with crime prevention, safe communities, Child Safe Canada, Red Cross and more; through our loving sponsors, donors, and tenants; and through years of dedication from our volunteers, Board of Directors, and staff, we have seen Safety City grow, change, overcome diversity, and most importantly endure. We could not do what we love without the incredible support we have received through the years from our community and the people within it.

Safety City’s mission, “Teaching Children Safety for Life” guides us to teach young people how to prevent injuries and keep themselves, their families, and their communities safe before injuries and losses occur, giving them the foundational skills to protect themselves for their entire lives.

Today on April 24th, 2026, Red Deer Safety City Society honours 25 Years of Safety!

Please consider this your open invitation to join Safety City and our friends this summer as we celebrate this milestone. On August 22nd, 2026 we will be hosting an open house at Safety

City. Join us for a day of community fellowship, safety education, good times, and bring your preferred small-scale transportation to ride the CityScape. Follow us on socials as the details of the event are confirmed.
